Transport & The Olympics

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has submitted its application for the discharge of condition 36 – the Transport Plan.

The deadline for comments is 22 May and the Council’s normal practice where applications are to be considered by the Planning Board is for the officer concerned (who in this case has now retired) to respond to any comments and objections in a paper published and circulated to members of the Planning Board seven days before the hearing.

However the Council has announced that the application will be considered on 24 May, just two days after the deadline for comments.  The Council has published the agenda paper on 16th May, including its responses to some objections (though not those of later ones, including those of local amenity societies) several days before the deadline for comments.  A supplementary  paper is expected to be circulated responding to issues raised after that date.

The Transport Select Committee has also announced that it will be hearing oral evidence on Transport & the Olympics on 23 May from, inter alia,
·      Robin Gisby, Managing Director, Network Operations, Network Rail
·       Peter Hendy CBE, Commissioner of Transport, Transport for London
·       Hugh Sumner, Director of Transport, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA)
·       Richard George, Director of Transport, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG)
·        Rt Hon Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for Transport

The written evidence included submissions  by, or supported by, the Westcombe Society
